Character Name/Alias: Xie Wang/Scorpion King
Character age: Late twenties.
Canon: Word of Honor
Canon point: Right as the avalanche hits on the mountain.

History: Show Synopsis + To put it briefly, he has a toxic relationship with his foster/adoptive father, Zhao Jing, and, as a result, he gets wrapped up in Zhao Jing's schemes. He gives the man chance after chance, becomes an assassin for him, hides in the shadows and allows others to take his glory for him until he finally realizes that Zhao Jing doesn't love him at all. So he allows the man to get his comeuppance and then silences his crafty tongue with a medicine/poison of some sort. He has told Zhao Jing the truth of how he failed him and Scorpion carts the man around wherever he goes - just so his foster father can see what his "useless" son has accomplished. (Which is a great deal, by the way. Scorpion solves many of the issues standing between the sects and opening the treasure vault in the mountains - even if he ultimately fails in the end.)
Appearance: He is a handsome man who prefers to have his hair mostly in braids. He wears plenty of jewelry - as befitting a Prince or King - and he uses cosmetics around his eyes and sometimes on his lips. For robes, he prefers them to be dark these days.
Personality: Xie has spent his life loyal - to a sickening degree - to his foster-father Zhao Jing. He feels he owes the man his life for taking him in and raising him. Thus Xie has molded himself into whatever his "father" needs in the moment: assassin, comforter, supporter, friend and perhaps, in some scenarios, even a lover. Because he has sacrificed so much for the man and given so much of himself to him in the process, Xie displays a childish (though incredibly dangerous) jealousy towards anyone who tries to come between them. He has murdered for that trespass and, if Zhao Jing had not failed him so utterly, he likely would have continued doing so. What more can be expected of a scorpion?

Yet, ever since he met Beauty Ghost and her Mistress, his eyes have been opened. He sees that Zhao Jing is not the man he imagined and that all of his efforts are worthless. So he allies himself with Wen Kexing to cut the man down - which Kexing does with efficient cruelty. Xie puts the final touches on his once father by feeding him a poison that will still his tongue for good. He is done being tricked, being swayed by a man who cares nothing about him.

Underneath "Scorpion" (i.e. the man his "father" wanted him to be), Xie is sharp and crafty. He has discovered how to open the Armory - where men much older than him (and thus much more experienced) have failed. He also is a fair judge of others - outside of Zhao Jing, of course (that man muddles his emotions) - and he can (and does) show empathy for those in positions similar to his own (see: Beauty Ghost).

Xie calls himself a "gambler" and that is a phrase taken from said Beauty Ghost (meaning he has given his heart to another (Zhao Jing)). However he has since taken his heart back. For the most part, anyway, and he is operating as the leader for the first time. As a leader, he is direct, strong and involved in every detail (which is why he is later shocked when he finds out one of his "keys" isn't correct for the Armory). Unlike Zhao Jing (and many other sect leaders), Xie is someone who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty; he doesn't mind working. Now that he is out from under Zhao Jing's thumb, he reveals himself to be so much more than the murderous assassin - cold and cruel - that he became for his "father's" sake.

With time and freedom, Xie will discover that he really isn't much different than Zhou Zishu or Wen Kexing. His major downfall has always been his sense of blind loyalty, but he knows better now. No one will earn his loyalty unless they damn well deserve it. Even then, he will watch them, calculating their next move and measuring it against what he knows of them so far. He will not fall for the same trick a second time - even if his true father should come along and pretend to be full of love. Scorpion has learned - the hard way - and as his heart heals, he will arm himself against a world filled with men and women who are selfishly ambitious.

Furthermore, he will be able to, at last, show his softer side to those he deems worthy. He wants to be able to help those deserving; to use his skills in a way that benefits decency rather than one man's blind grasping for power. And, selfishly, he wants to be acknowledged for being good and talented in his own way. This is only the beginning for Scorpion; he will rise from the smoldering ashes of Zhao Jing and show the world that he has always been worthy of their esteem.

What did they do to end up here?: He has murdered countless people for the sake of his "shifu" (i.e. Zhao Jing). He has also killed his foster brothers so that he might keep said shifu to himself. In the end, he is also responsible for Zhao Jing's paralysis and eventual death due to an avalanche.

Outside of Zhao Jing, Scorpion made a certain wedding into a bloody disaster in which both the bride and the groom were massacred. All for the sake of opening up the Armory. He will come to regret his ruthlessness, but he is already stained with blood.

Powers / Abilities: ~ He is swift and brutal with poisoned weapons (small daggers usually); he also has a short metal whip that can slice through his foe's easily (and it too might be poisoned).

~ He can also use music to control the dead - his favored instrument being the Pipa.

~ He is a martial artists, so gravity is often ignored for short spans of time and he is incredibly quick/light on his feet and flexible.

~ He has a sharp mind - approaching genius - for tactics and puzzles.
